ARFID - Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder

Do you or your loved one have a lack of interest in food?

Is this food avoidance based on the sensory characteristics of food, such as textures? While not always the case, this type of restriction can impact one’s nutritional or energy needs.

We support people of all ages who struggle with ARFID. There is a way to expand you or your child’s palate in a nonjudgmental way!

Does any of this sound similar?

  • You or your loved one’s food avoidance is based of food texture, smell, or a general dislike of certain foods

  • You or your loved one often have a lack of appetite or refuse food because of what is offered

  • You or your loved one associate eating with generalized anxiety with eating, complains of fullness and nausea, fear of vomiting, or unpleasant sensory experiences while eating

If any of these symptoms sound familiar, you or your loved one may be struggling with ARFID.

Here’s how we can help…

At Olive Tree RD, we understand that struggling with what some call ‘picky eating’ can be frustrating. We will first want to learn about your relationship with food from a young age. Was there a situation that caused this avoidance around certain types of foods? Your feelings are valid no matter what the association is. After learning more about your personalized story and what your goals are, we will slowly and gently guide you towards expanding your palate through nonjudgmental approach. We always honor each individual’s dietary preferences (that includes Veganism!) and would be more than happy to work with you on any meals you find challenging, by offering meal support sessions.
